Trauma can be an intimidating word. In this group, we define sexual trauma as a past experience in which you were sexually violated that has now been affecting your daily ability to function, your anxieties, your mood, your relationships, or any other key part of your day-to-day life. Trauma can also leave you feeling isolated and alone, or perhaps timid and unsure of how to breach the subject with others. This group is designed to give you a safe space to work through the steps of trauma healing: coming to terms with what happened, externalizing the event from your own self worth and sense of self, understanding how it has affected you emotionally, learning what coping skills work best for you, and changing the narrative around how you see your future in this world. Why do this work in a group? Learning that you are not alone can be paramount in the healing process, as group members feel understood they can create strength in unity.
